THE OUTHOUSE REVIEWS JOHNNY REPEAT

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

CITIZENS!  In the “Ignored Independents” section of the one-stop comic book blog The Outhouse, John Lewis provides a dead-on review of JOHNNY REPEAT and makes some very generous comparisons:

“The book is interesting as it sets up a story that’s a bit weird (more like borderline psycho)… In a way, it’s similar to 100 Bullets or Sleeper if the creator was on acid or LSD.”

Why does everyone think I’m on drugs???

In stores now, JOHNNY REPEAT is a 104-page black and white graphic novel with a cover price of $12.95 USD.

NEWSARAMA REVIEWS JOHNNY REPEAT

Monday, September 11th, 2006

CITIZENS!  In this week’s installment of Newsarama’s “Best & Advance Shots,” Koben Kelly gives JOHNNY REPEAT a sterling review and makes me for the madman that I am:

“I’ve come to the conclusion that Jason James is a strange, strange man on a level akin to… say… David Lynch.  So many ideas and concepts swirl around this book that repeated readings may bear completely different perceptions of the same story.  On Grant Morrison’s most hallucinatory day he’d have trouble wrapping his brain around this book.  If you’re looking for something experimental, non-linear, and absolutely engaging, you might want to take a crack at this first effort from Citizen Press.”

Read the full article here.  Reading Koben’s review made me smile a big toothy one.  He gets it.  He really, really gets it.

Arriving in stores on September 13th, JOHNNY REPEAT is a 104-page black and white graphic novel with a cover price of $12.95 USD.

That is all for now, CITIZENS!

COMIC PANTS REVIEWS JOHNNY REPEAT

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

CITIZENS!  David Martindale took a moment and some real estate on his brand-spanking new review site - comicpants.com - to give a fun and thought-twisted critique of JOHNNY REPEAT:

“It’s a book that well exemplifies what Dave Farabee coined as ‘The Grant Morrison Effect.’  Essentially ‘The Grant Morrison Effect’ is when I set down a book and say, ‘Wow that was really cool… and I know I enjoyed reading the book… but WTF happened?’”

Click here to read the full review.

David was particularly impressed with the incredible mix of artists found in JOHNNY REPEAT and their distinctive contributions to the visual storytelling of the book:

“I especially enjoyed the way different art styles were used in each part of the story that focused on different characters. The sharp lines and contrast in The Woman with No Name’s parts fit the sensual, refined deadliness of her character very well. The chaotic art style in Nathaniel’s parts fit his ultraviolent sexaholic personality. The brooding feel of Jeronimus comes out well in his parts as well with excellent use of not fully showing the face to display expression.”

A big thanks to David and Comic Pants co-contributor Randy Lander (who adds his own two cents and some constructive criticism at the end of the review) for their kind words and consideration.

Read on, CITIZENS!
